Team effort helps fund exciting KS4 outdoor adventure

At Beechcliffe School Thackley, we believe that every child deserves the chance to experience the kind of opportunities that shape confidence, spark curiosity and build lifelong memories. That’s why we’re absolutely thrilled that we were able to raise enough funds to be able to take all of our Key Stage 4 pupils on an overnight residential trip to High Adventure in North Yorkshire!

The trip, which included a fantastic programme of outdoor pursuits such as abseiling, rafting and gorge scrambling, was a milestone moment for many of our students. For some, it was their very first time away from home – a brave and exciting step – and their first real chance to connect with the great outdoors in a meaningful way.

While the school heavily subsidising the trip to make it as accessible as possible, we knew that some of our families would still face a shortfall. That’s why we rolled up our sleeves and got stuck into some creative fundraising – and our students have absolutely risen to the challenge!

In March 2025, pupils took on a huge rowing challenge, working together to row an incredible 54,075 kilometres in just one school day! What an achievement! Their resilience, determination and team spirit were nothing short of inspirational.

And they weren’t alone. Leading by example, two of our teachers, Mr Pacey and Mr Senior, each pledged to row an entire marathon (42,195 metres) in support of the cause. 

It was a brilliant way to round off a term focused on resilience. The message is loud and clear – we don’t quit. These efforts go far beyond fundraising; they’re about belief, unity, and opening doors to future possibilities.
