Our mission is to provide our pupils with transformative, and life changing education and our curriculum has been specifically designed to achieve this.
The curriculum is carefully constructed to meet the specific needs of our pupils; this is based on the needs and outcomes set out in their EHCPs alongside a broad and balanced offer of subjects and content. The golden threads that run throughout our curriculum are:
· Reading,
· Resilience through the development of skills and social capital
· Rich and meaningful knowledge.
We place equal emphasis on social, emotional and academic development. Our aim is to equip every pupil with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to thrive—both throughout their education and, crucially, as active and valued members of their communities and the wider world they live in.
To support this growth, our curriculum is structured around six key areas:
· Personal Development: Opportunities that foster cooperation, confidence, and social interaction—while also expanding pupils’ experiences of the wider world—are fundamental. These experiences help build self-worth, character, and interpersonal understanding. Developing this foundation is vital for pupils to participate fully and meaningfully in the world around them.
· Core Learning: Strong emphasis is placed on Maths (Numeracy) and English (Literacy), which are not only essential for academic progress but also play a key role in enhancing communication, problem-solving, and independence—skills that are critical for future success and well-being.
· Wider Knowledge: Through subjects such as Science, Geography, History, Art, and Technology, pupils gain a broader perspective and a more rounded education. This encourages curiosity, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the world they inhabit.
· PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education): PSHE is integral to the development of well-informed, healthy, and responsible individuals. It provides pupils with essential life skills and knowledge to make safe and informed choices about relationships, health, and personal finances.
· Reading: Developing literacy underpins learning across the curriculum. It supports comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and critical thinking. A love of reading also enriches pupils’ lives by deepening their understanding of themselves and others, nurturing empathy, and opening new perspectives and possibilities.
· Social and Emotional Development: Building emotional literacy, resilience, and positive relationships is central to our approach. These skills support well-being, behaviour, and engagement—both in school and in life beyond education.
The delivery of these six curriculum areas is further tailored to meet the individual needs of pupils, who are taught through three distinct pathways within each Key Stage. In each pathway, pupils learn in dedicated classes led by a class teacher and supported by teaching assistants:
